Center for Psychiatry
The Center for Psychiatry (CFP), is located in the Strang Building of the Winter Haven Hospital. The Center for Psychiatry provides care for adults with a psychiatric disorder, 18 years of age and above. Board-Certified Psychiatrists work with an interdisciplinary team including RNs and Social Workers to provide comprehensive service. The inpatient facility offers twenty-four hours a day of psychiatric supervision and intervention, intensive nursing care, psycho-therapy, psycho-education and therapeutic recreational group treatment.
The staff works closely with members of the Emergency Department and the Access Team to ensure efficient and appropriate disposition of psychiatric patients. The Access Team assists in the evaluation of patients who may be referred for assessment of a mental illness.
The Center for Psychiatry can accommodate 28 inpatients. The unit is a locked unit; it is staffed to meet the needs of the patients for nursing care, patient acuity, and census. Care is patient-centered, based on Winter Haven Hospital’s Professional Model of Care and Jean Watson’s Caring Theory.
To ensure patient safety, staffing is consistent with standards used within the industry. Patient care is provided by RNs, LPNs, Lead Mental Associates, Mental Health Associates, Mental Health Technicians, Nursing Techs, Certified Nursing Assistants, and students during clinical rotations. The staff communicates with other departments through the Patient Safety Committee, Patient Services Management Committee, Risk Management, Performance Improvement, Meeting of the Minds, Psychiatric Subsection, Nurse Pharmacy, Shared Governance, and independent meetings as necessary to provide optimum care and service to their customers. Patients participate in their plan of care by meeting with the members of their treatment team daily to plan therapy needed during their hospitalization and anticipate their needs for assistance after discharge. Referrals are made to resources in the community.
