Mental Health ServicesThe Winter Haven Hospital is proud of its 40-year, broad-based commitment to programs for mental health. Our services include the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Treatment is provided by our staff of licensed counselors, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and other certified mental health professionals. Treatment includes individual, group or family therapy and medicine when needed. We also offer crisis support and peer support services.
The following is a description of each of our Behavioral Health services:
Inpatient Services
Care for individuals requiring hospitalization is offered for adults 18 years of age and above. Board-Certified Psychiatrists work with an interdisciplinary team including RNs and Social Workers to provide comprehensive service. The Center for Psychiatry is a locked unit and offers twenty-four hours a day of psychiatric supervision and intervention, intensive nursing care, psycho-therapy, psycho-education and therapeutic recreational group treatment. The unit is staffed daily in order to meet the needs of the patients based on patient acuity and census. The care delivered is patient-centered, based on Winter Haven Hospital’s Professional Model of Care and Jean Watson’s Caring Theory.Outpatient Services

Assessment, individual, group and family therapy are offered to children, teens, adults and older adults at our Polk and Highlands County outpatient sites. The Centers also offer support services that include case management, supported housing, supported employment, as well as Peer Support, Recovery Services and Crisis-emergency services.
The following is a description of services offered in our outpatient centers:
Psychiatric Services
Board Certified/eligible Psychiatrists and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners provide psychiatric services to evaluate and diagnose conditions and also manage medication. These services are provided at our Polk and Highlands County outpatient sites.Child Intensive Day Services
The Parent and Adolescent Counseling and Education Program (PACE) in Polk County offers day treatment services for children and teens ages 9-17. The services in this program provide intensive treatment options to children in need of more than traditional outpatient therapy. The length and type of treatment depends on the needs of the child.Specialized Contracted Services for Families
Special contracted services are offered for children and their families throughout Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties. These services are designed to either keep the family together or reunite the family by delivering specialized intervention services. Dependency Court Services and Family Clinical specialists provide community-based and in-home intervention for families when a child has been removed from the home due to abuse or neglect with the goal of reunifying the family. Other services include Family Support Services (FSS), Family Intervention Team (FIT), and Family Assistance Support Team (FAST).School Based Services
Mental health consults and counseling are provided under contract to specific schools in Polk County and pre-school head start centers. Many migrant head start centers throughout Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties use this specialized pre-school consultation service.
