The Inpatient Center for Diabetes Care Leadership Team
Christopher D. Miller, MD, Medical Director of the Center for Diabetes Care is a physician with Bond Clinic in Winter Haven and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. He has been a member of the medical staff at Winter Haven Hospital since 2003. Dr Miller attended Georgetown University School of Medicine and had a Fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Emory University School of Medicine. He was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine for 2 years and served as a staff physician at The Emory Clinic and Emory University Hospital.
Andrea Sekura, RN Administrative Director of the Center for Diabetes Care is an RN with over 30 years of experience. Ms. Sekura has been a Unit Manager at Winter Haven Hospital for 8 years and has her certification in Neuroscience and Medical-Surgical Nursing.
Teola Hollingsworth, RN, Assistant Unit Manager of the Center for Diabetes Care is an RN and is certified in Medical-Surgical Nursing. Ms. Hollingsworth has worked with medical-surgical patients for over 9 years.
Deloris Reed, ARNP-BC-ADM, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner; received her Master of Science Degree in Nursing from West Virginia University. She is ANCC board certified in Family Practice and Advanced Diabetes Management. Ms. Reed worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner with a Family Practice group at Gessler Clinic PA for 12 years prior to joining the staff at the Center for Diabetes Care. She has 14 years of clinical experience working with people who have diabetes and has focused on the management of diabetes and the prevention of the complications of diabetes. Since joining the team at Winter Haven Hospital she has formed collaborative agreements with endocrinologists from both Bond and Gessler Clinics as well as hospitalists from these clinics. Her current role includes mentoring staff, teaching patients about diabetes, promoting self-management, serving as a resource for all staff, providing consultation and working collaboratively with physicians to promote glycemic control in all patients with diabetes. She works closely with dieticians, diabetes educators (inpatient and outpatient), nurses and management to promote excellent care for patients with diabetes.
Sandra VanRoo, RN, BSN Diabetes Resource Nurse for the Center for Diabetes Care has been an RN for over 30 years. Prior to joining the Center for Diabetes Care she was a patient educator.
Outpatient Center for Diabetes Education Instructor
Joanne Vaccaro-Kish, Education Coordinator: Diabetes is a registered nurse and has been a certified diabetes educator (CDE) for more than 15 years. Before joining the team at Winter Haven Hospital, Joanne was the program manager for a multi-site diabetes education program at the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine. Joanne has planned education programs for adults and children with diabetes as well as professional education programs in diabetes for physicians, nurses and other health care professionals and students. She is certified as an insulin pump trainer. Joanne believes that with support and information, people with diabetes can become independent in their diabetes management. Taking charge of diabetes and partnering with providers and diabetes teams can help prevent the complications of diabetes.
