Holidays: Making Them Work for You
Posted: November 2, 2009Winter Haven Hospital is pleased to present as a part of the Healthy Living Series, “Holidays: Making Them Work for You.” on Monday, November 9, 2009, from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. This is the third in a series of lectures being held at the Winter Haven Public Library, 325 Avenue A, NW, Winter Haven.
Many people find the holidays a source of added stress to their already hectic daily lives. Others find the holidays depressing due to loss and/or loneliness. Still others carry overwhelming negative feelings about the holidays from past experiences. If you’re one of the many who face the holidays with anxiety, this workshop is for you! Participants will learn new approaches to making the holidays more positive for themselves and others. The presenter will be Beth Koon, LCSW, DCSW, CPHQ; QI Manager for Customer Engagement, Winter Haven Hospital.

Babysitting Class
(For ages 11 - 14)
Posted: November 2, 2009Winter Haven Hospital will be offering a Babysitting Class on, Saturday, November 14, 2009, from 9:00am to 5:00pm, in the Regency Medical Center classrooms. The Regency is located at 101 Avenue O, SE (Corner of First St, S. & Ave O, SE), Winter Haven.
This one day class is designed for young people ages 11 to 14 years of age. The emphasis for this course is on safety, being a responsible babysitter, accident prevention, and how to handle emergencies. Also included are Child CPR, nap and bedtime strategies, snack & meal time routines, and tips for age appropriate playtime activities.

Balance Screening
(Free Community Program)
Posted: November 2, 2009Winter Haven Hospital will be presenting a free community Balance Screening on Thursday November 19, 2009, from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Included will be a lecture, individual balance screening and simple exercises to improve your balance.
The program will be held at Winter Haven Hospital’s Outpatient Rehab Center, Gill Jones Building, 3425 Lake Alfred Road, Winter Haven, Florida. The program will be facilitated by Physical Therapists from the Rehab Center. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
If you are experiencing loss of balance or fear of falling, this screening may help you. You will be given information on what contributes to balance, a screening of your balance ability, and some suggestions on improving your balance.

HEART TO HEART SUPPORT GROUP
Posted: November 2, 2009The Heart to Heart Support Group meets from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on the second Tuesday of each month. The meeting place is the Wellness Center Conference Room, Winter Haven Hospital, 200 Avenue F, NE, Winter Haven, FL. Please enter through the main hospital lobby and stop at the front desk for directions to the room. The next meeting will be November 10, 2009 and will feature, Lisa Schlagel, BA, RN, Winter Haven Hospital. The topic of her presentation will be "Cholesterol 100: A Review."
This support group is for those who have any type of cardiac problems, their family members and care givers. Or, if you are simply interested in learning more about heart disease and cardiac care, you are welcome to attend.
