“Quit Smoking Now!”
Posted: October 16, 2009 Winter Haven Hospital is pleased to present “Quit Smoking Now”, a six session series which has been developed by ex-smokers for those who want to become ex-smokers themselves! If you are ready to QUIT, register today---it’s FREE.
The sessions will begin on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, and meet on the 10th, 17th, 19th, 24th and December 1st. Each session will last for one and a half hours (4:30pm – 6:00pm) and will be held in the Winter Haven Hospital Wellness Conference Room. Simply come to the hospital’s main lobby and ask for the Wellness Center.

HEART TO HEART SUPPORT GROUP
Posted: October 7, 2009 The Heart to Heart Support Group meets from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on the second Tuesday of each month. The meeting place is the Wellness Center Conference Room, Winter Haven Hospital, 200 Avenue F, NE, Winter Haven, FL. Please enter through the main hospital lobby and stop at the front desk for directions to the room. The next meeting will be October 13, 2009.
This support group is for those who have any type of cardiac problems, their family members and care givers. Or, if you are simply interested in learning more about heart disease and cardiac care, you are welcome to attend.

Posted: September 30, 2009Winter Haven Hospital is pleased to offer a free community class, “Total Joint Replacement” on the first and third Tuesday of each month, from 12:30pm to 1:30pm, in the Swann 6 Day Room, Winter Haven Hospital, 200 Avenue F, NE, Winter Haven.
This class is designed for any individual considering or is scheduled for total joint replacement. Please try to attend at least two weeks prior to your surgery.
You will get answers to questions regarding your surgery (before and after). Some of those concerns may be:
1. Will I experience much pain?
2. When will I be able to exercise?
3. How long will I have to stay in the hospital?
4. Will I need any special equipment?
5. What kind of follow-up care is required?The instructors for the class are Orthopedic Nurses, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists from the Winter Haven Hospital Rehab Center.

Transforming the Brain: Healing the Body through Meditation

Posted: September 29, 2009Winter Haven Hospital is pleased to announce the presentation of “Transforming the Brain: Healing the Body through Meditation” on Monday, October 12, 2009, from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. This is the second in the Winter Haven Hospital’s Healthy Living Series being held at the Winter Haven Public Library. The lectures will be held in the library’s Multi-Purpose Room.
The facilitator for this program will be Susan Quinn, Consultant & Certified Meditation Instructor, The Sage-ing Program. She has practiced meditation for more than fifteen years. She will discuss the meaning, different types and benefits of meditation. Balance Screening
(Free Community Program)
Posted: September 29, 2009Winter Haven Hospital will be presenting a free community Balance Screening on Thursday October 15, 2009, from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Included will be a lecture, individual balance screening and simple exercises to improve your balance.
The program will be held at Winter Haven Hospital’s Outpatient Rehab Center, Gill Jones Building, 3425 Lake Alfred Road, Winter Haven, Florida. The program will be facilitated by Physical Therapists from the Rehab Center. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
If you are experiencing loss of balance or fear of falling, this screening may help you. You will be given information on what contributes to balance, a screening of your balance ability, and some suggestions on improving your balance.
